Dec. 1, 2015 - The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced a number of changes to make participation in the Veterans Choice Program easier and more convenient for Veterans who need to use it. The move, which streamlines eligibility requirements, follows feedback from Veterans along with organizations working on their behalf. Click here for details.

2017 Hometown Hero Banner Program

The American Legion Family, Post #159 with the support of the Town of Chincoteague is proud to present the Hometown Heroes Military Banner Program. This program was created to recognize and honor active duty military personnel that reside in or have immediate family living in Chincoteague. Banners will display the official military photo of the service person, as well as their name, rank, and branch of U.S. Armed Forces. There will be NO cost to the honoree or the applicant to participate.

Due to Virginia ABC Regulations, beginning May 5th, no alcohol can be sold or consumed at the Post Home during "Open Door" events (this includes Friday Night Food).

Saturday, April 29th, SAL BBQ Chicken at the Carnival Grounds part of the "Shore Craft Beers Fest 2017-Chincoteague".  More info to follow
Friday, May 5th, Pork Loin, Mashed Potatoes w/Gravy, Vegetable, and Roll - $8, 5-7PM
Saturday, May 13th, the Chincoteague American Legion Post will be serving a Mega Breakfast Buffet from 8 to 10 AM.
Friday, May 19th, the American Legion will be serving Steamed Shrimp and Clams from 5-7 PM. Carry out available after 6:30, supplies permitting.
Friday, June 2nd, Crab Cake Sandwich, French Fries and Cole slaw-$8, 5-7PM.
Saturday, June 10th, the Chincoteague American Legion Post will be serving a Mega Breakfast Buffet from 8 to 10 AM.
Friday, June 16th, the American Legion will be serving Steamed Shrimp and Clams from 5-7 PM. Carry out available after 6:30, supplies permitting.

On Sundays, Sports on the Big Screen TVs. Doors open at 11AM.

The Chincoteague American Legion Post opens daily at 11AM. Lunch and dinner menu items served daily from noon - 7 p.m. After 7 p.m. regular menu items available. The specials range from sandwiches to small platters. We welcome members and their guests to come check out our special menu items reasonably priced.

Since our charter in January 1933, our American Legion Post has been welcoming and serving VETERANS from all branches of our Armed Forces. Today, we continue to welcome all military serving our country. Joining our Post enables you to continue serving your God, Country and Community. Our mission is to implement the goals, aspirations, dreams, peace and blessings for our country, friends and families embodied in our preamble below.

1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, NC.


Would you like to join your fellow veterans here at Chincoteague Post 159. All you have to do is click on the "Application" link on the left side, fill out the application, then mail your check and a photo copy of your DD Form 214 or other official proof of honorable service with the U. S. Armed Forces to American Legion Post 159, P.O. Box 244, Chincoteague, VA 23336; OR give your check and proof to the Bartender at the Post.
